Jobs Course Gets Off to a Flying Start -

Local girl, Rachael Platt, is flying high and has secured her dream job after completing an employability course at Stourbridge College’s Black Country Skills Shop based at the Merry Hill Centre. Rachael has landed a job as a Children’s Representative for holiday company Thomson and will soon be jetting off overseas this April to start her new role.

Skills Shop Shows Apprenticeships are Working! -

Stourbridge College’s Black Country Skills Shop has successfully completed a recruitment campaign in partnership with Aldi, the country’s fastest growing retailer, which has resulted in eleven local teenagers being selected as apprentices in Retail Management. Aldi started to shop around for apprentices when they launched their national Apprentice Scheme in March and, working with local colleges connected to the National Skills Academy for Retail, targeted school leavers interested in pursuing a career in retail management.

Woodcraft Carves a Quality Apprenticeship Reputation -

Based in Kidderminster, Wyre Forest Woodcraft is one of the first small businesses to get a taste for the government’s sweetener grant and is looking to take on two new apprentices through Business Skills and Stourbridge College. The company has been building its reputation for quality and customer service since 1996 and is now run by three partners who started to perfect their craft as joinery apprentices – two of which are home grown.

The students, studying Carpentry & Joinery, Plumbing, Electrical, Plastering and Brickwork apprenticeships, attended the event along with guests including college partners, work placement mentors and Dudley Council Housing Services Managers, which recognises and rewards apprenticeship achievements throughout the year.
